What’s another word for ‘bam’?
I need a word. I have people trapped in a room in my NaNoWriMo story. I have monsters (don’t ask) who are trying to break into the room. When the monsters throw themselves at the door, or bang a chair against the door, it makes a sound, and whatever word I choose, I use quite a bit in that scene.
I’ve tried wham! I’ve tried bam-wham! (And at this point, I should be paying royalties to George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley.) But this is an action-filled romance, and the words “wham” and “bam” refer to a one-night-stand. Oops.
So, please help! Any suggestions are welcome. What’s a snappy word that describes the sound of them hitting the door?
And note: on the top of the NaNoWrimo site pages, there is a space that is meant to show your word count. This widget is now officially working. Yea! The calendar widget isn’t working well, however. You can see it on the right. I updated my word count last night, but nothing has shown up for Sunday. Oh, well. My number widget is working, at as long as I’m showing progress, I’m happy.

Slam? Smash? Crash? Whump? I’m not sure — what other projects have George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley done? Maybe there are more sound effects names to be mined there.
Wham! words that won’t help me:
Go-go.
Whisper (Careless or not).
Bad Boys.
Club, nor Tropicana.
Freedom.
Nope. Nothing over in Wham! Michael/Ridgeley Land.
Shall we start going through the Bananrama titles? Human League? ABC? Scritti Pollitti?
“Slam” might be useful now and then. Thanks, Clyde.
